I studied abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland for the Fall 2016 semester. While abroad, I took classes that closely aligned with my minor, psychology. I studied substance misuse over the lifespan and treating young adults using psychological interventions. I also took a wine studies course which was tons of fun (and very informative)!
I had always been interested in traveling but never had the guts to do it. Deciding to study abroad turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made for myself. I hoped to gain a better understanding of the world and a better understanding of myself.
The experience was incredibly challenging, terrifying, nerve-wracking… but also incredibly rewarding. I was more proud of myself in these 4 short months than I have ever been! I navigated through foreign airports and cities and communicated with others with little knowledge of the language. I formed lasting friendships and met amazing people who challenged my preconceptions of the world. I stepped into a world of discomfort and uncertainty and it inspired me to grow.
As I prepare to graduate with a degree in Public Health and a concentration in Global Health- I have no doubts that my time abroad will set me apart. I evolved as a global citizen. I continually challenge myself to see the world in a different light. I immersed myself completely into each culture I was lucky enough to be a part of. I have a better understanding of the world that surrounds me and a hunger to learn more about it.
